Baptisms

Baptism is an important step of obedience that shows others we have personally trusted Jesus for our salvation.

When Christians are baptized, they are submerged under water to identify with the death and burial of Jesus and raised out of the water to identify with His resurrection.

Water baptism is a public declaration of three important things: you are a follower of Jesus Christ, you are beginning a changed life in Christ, and you are part of a new family. You don’t need to be perfect, come as you are.

FAQs

Baptism is a public demonstration of your faith. This act publicly declares that you have made a commitment to follow Christ. It is an outward expression of the inward change that occurs when you accept Christ as your savior. It is the next step after salvation and is considered to be foundational in the life of a believer. Lastly, it is an act of obedience to the directive given to us by Jesus. Jesus himself was baptized. Although he was perfect and without sin He humbled himself as an act of obedience thus giving us an example we can follow.

Matthew 28:18-20
“Then Jesus came close to them and said, “All the authority of the universe has been given to me. Now go in my authority and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. And teach them to faithfully follow all that I have commanded you. And never forget that I am with you every day, even to the completion of this age.”

Baptism is symbolic in several ways. It is a picture of Christ’s death, burial and resurrection as well as your new life as a Christ follower. As we go under the water the old life is left behind and as we come up, we walk in the new life Christ has given us.

Colossians 2:12-14
“Going under the water was a burial of your old life; coming up out of it was a resurrection, God raising you from the dead as he did Christ. When you were stuck in your old sin-dead life, you were incapable of responding to God. God brought you alive – right along with Christ! Think of it! All sins forgiven, the slate wiped clean, that old arrest warrant canceled and nailed to Christ’s cross.”
